Charnwood’s Largest Loser Kick Starts Olympic Year
LUCKY residents are being offered the chance to win top prizes and change their lives by taking part in a fitness-boosting competition thanks to Charnwood Borough Council.
The Council is launching Charnwood’s Largest Loser on Monday, January 16th, 2012 – a 10-week programme to help residents lose weight, get fit and kick off the Olympic year with a bang.
The person who loses the most weight at the end of the programme will win a luxurious day of pampering for two at prestigious Ragdale Hall near Melton Mowbray while two runners up will win three-month passes to Charnwood’s leisure centres.
As part of the weight-busting competition, contestants will get huge discounts on a range of activities provided by the Council’s Active Together team, as well as getting a free weigh-in and health check.
Councillor David Snartt, Charnwood Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “Charnwood’s Largest Loser offers our residents the chance to make a massive difference in their lives.
“Not only can they take advantage of our range of activity services at discounted prices but they can also win top prizes thanks to our generous sponsors.
“This is a golden opportunity for people to improve their health and well being and get 2012 off to the best possible start.”
Weigh ins will be held every fortnight at two venues - Gorse Covert Community Centre in Loughborough and Elizabeth Park in Thurmaston.
Activities will be held at a range of locations and will include Zumba Gold, hulaerobics, running, line dancing, urban boot camp, cardio tennis, new age bowls and walks.
As well as activities, there will also be workshops on physical activity, healthy eating, cookery demonstrations and health checks.
It costs just £5 to sign up for the 10-week programme with individual activities offered up at discounted prices. Guided walks are completely free.
