A SOUTH Charnwood resident has won an iPad 2 after completing Charnwood Borough Council’s ‘Your Council, Your Voice’ consultation.

Tom Chaplin, 63, was thrilled to win the prize which was donated to the Council by its leisure centres partner Fusion Lifestyle.

‘Your Council, Your Voice’ was an online consultation which ran in November and December 2011 to give Charnwood residents the chance to have their say about Council services.

The results of the consultation will be used to shape the borough in the Council’s Corporate Plan 2012-2016 which is due to be published in April.

Tom said: “I am very pleased and can’t quite believe my luck. I’ve never won anything like this before so I’m over the moon.

“The link (to the survey) was sent to me and I looked at it and was in two minds about spending the time but appreciated the opportunity to give feed back. The deciding factor was the iPad 2.”

Tom said he will use his new gadget to surf the Web, read newspapers, read emails and collate his digital photo library.

He added: “As a volunteer I assist in running projects at the Great Central Railway and will use it to carry files, drawings and pictures to do with the projects - replacing the mountain of papers I currently carry about!”

Councillor David Slater, Charnwood Borough Council’s Leader, said: “I’d like to say a big thanks to Fusion for their generosity in donating this fantastic prize.

“We are immensely grateful for all the input we have received from the public. As we’ve said before, we have had a massive response compared to our last consultation.

“By offering the prize, we have encouraged more people to take part which was our goal. The Council works better the more it understands the needs of its customers so thank you to everyone who took part.”

Phil Steele, Fusion Lifestyle’s Divisional Business Manager, said: “It is great to have been able to incentivise this research and to see record levels of responses that will help us, in partnership with Charnwood Borough Council, better understand our customer and potential customer needs.”

Every resident who took part in the survey was also offered a free day pass to use at one of the borough’s three leisure centres now managed by Fusion - Loughborough Leisure Centre, Soar Valley Leisure Centre in Mountsorrel and South Charnwood Leisure Centre in Syston.

A total of 194 people took up the offer and downloaded the pass and the teams at those centres have been welcoming residents throughout January. Visit www.charnwoodleisure.com for a full list of facilities and activities.
