Council Contractor Wins Recognition for Staff Development
A COUNCIL contractor has been awarded the prestigious Silver accreditation by Investors In People.
Serco, Charnwood Borough Council’s waste management partner, was given the award following a recent visit from an assessor.
The award recognises the work that Serco carries out around training, developing, investing in and rewarding its workforce.
Councillor Hilary Fryer, Cabinet member for Cleansing and Open Spaces said: “Charnwood Borough Council is pleased to be working with a partner which invests in its staff and their development, which in turn helps them to provide a top service for our residents.
Serco was particularly praised for the condition of the Charnwood Borough depot, which is very tidy and well-kept and for its relationship with staff.
Staff are regularly consulted and offered training, such as HGV driver courses and leadership and management training, in order to develop their skills. They are also kept informed through an internal newsletter.
Awards are given to particularly hard-working members of staff, such as Employee of the Month and Employee of the Year, where the winner receives £250 worth of high street vouchers.
David Worsfold, the Investors in People assessor said that Serco ‘now sit amongst an elite group with a silver accreditation and should be very proud of this achievement’.
