Help Take the Scrub Out of Shelthorpe This Weekend
VOLUNTEERS are recruiting more help to revamp a rundown green space in Shelthorpe this Sunday.
Following recent fly tipping abuse, work will be carried out to improve the woodland for use by residents.
The wildlife area at Humphreys Close is in need of some scrub clearance and woodland work, which will improve the area for both people and wildlife. The work begins at 10am, Sunday February 26 at Humphreys Close in Shelthorpe.
Whether you’re a resident of Shelthorpe or not, Charnwood Borough Council staff and the Charnwood Conservation Volunteers are welcoming everyone to muck in.
Councillor Hilary Fryer, the Council’s Cabinet member for Cleansing and Open Spaces, said: “This is a great chance for residents to contribute to the maintenance of some of our green areas.
“Our Senior Green Spaces Officer Mark Graham will be on hand with all the tools and training required and I’m sure this is something all volunteers will enjoy.”
Humphreys Close is largely made up of wildflower meadow with a small 15-year-old woodland area and is one of few green spaces in Shelthorpe. Unfortunately, it has been experiencing some problems with fly tipping recently.
It is hoped that by carrying out this type of work the space can be improved and generate greater appreciation from locals.
The land naturally hosts some wildflower species and there are hopes of developing this further in the future.
