Got Green Fingers? Get a Brown Bin!
GREEN-fingered residents could scoop an eco-friendly prize by signing up to Charnwood Borough Council’s garden waste collection scheme.
Subscribers to the scheme, which costs from as little as £15 per year, receive a brown bin which can be used for all garden waste and is collected fortnightly.
Residents who subscribe before May 31, 2012, could win one of 250 Green Cone food digesters which converts food waste into water and CO2.
Councillor Hilary Fryer, Charnwood Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Cleansing and Open Spaces, said: “As garden waste rots in landfill sites, it produces methane, a greenhouse gas which contributes to climate change.
“The Council is committed to playing its part to reduce its impact on the environment but we can only achieve that with the help of our residents.
“Not only is the garden waste scheme convenient for residents, it minimises their impact on the environment and its easier, cleaner and cheaper than loading up the car to take garden waste to the tip.
“Do your bit for the environment and sign up – you could even win a Green Cone which is a fantastic way of reducing the demand on landfill sites.”
Green Cone food digesters are a revolutionary low maintenance food waste digester that, in conjunction with the sun’s heat, virtually converts all cooked and uncooked food waste into it natural components of water and CO2.
Residents who are already subscribed can always order and pay for an additional brown bin and still be entered into the prize draw.
The cost of the service is £15 a year for customers who wish to pay annually by Direct Debit. If you choose not to pay by Direct Debit, the charge will be £26 per year.
