Shortlist Revealed for Environmental Awards
A SHORTLIST of top eco-warriors has been revealed ahead of Charnwood Borough Council’s first-ever Don’t Muck Around environmental awards.
The awards, which will be held at Loughborough College’s Radmoor Centre on Thursday, June 14, will recognise and reward people or groups who have made a positive impact on the environment.
The shortlist includes a wide section of our communities, from primary schoolchildren, married couples, charities, businesses, neighbourhoods to residents’ associations as well as individuals who have all played a part in protecting Charnwood’s green and pleasant land.
The winners will be revealed at the Don’t Muck Around Awards ceremony which are sponsored exclusively by the Council’s waste management partner, Serco.
They will be hosted by BBC Radio Leicester presenter Martin Ballard.
Councillor David Slater, Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: “The quality of entries was absolutely terrific which shows just how much work people and businesses are doing to help protect our local environment.
“The Don’t Muck Around Awards are designed to recognise all that tremendous work and reward those people who make a difference – no matter how big or small.
“Regardless of who wins an award, every single person, group, organisation or business who was nominated deserves praise. I’d like to congratulate everyone for their efforts.”
The categories are:
- Community - making a difference to the quality of the local environment
- Innovation - best innovative or creative solution to protect or enhance the environment
- Business - best commercial initiative which has benefitted the wider community
- Schools & Young People – best environmental initiative
- Overall winner – selected from the shortlisted candidates
The Don’t Muck Around Awards are named after the Council’s nationally acclaimed environmental crime campaign which last year led to significant reductions in litter, dog fouling and fly-tipping.
