ELIZABETH Park in Thurmaston is the venue on Thursday (June 21) for a  ‘Feelgood Day’ promoting healthy living and offering activities for all ages.

And, if the event is a success, it could be rolled out again in further ‘Feelgood  Charnwood’ days to be held in other parts of the borough.

The pilot event at Elizabeth Park runs from 3pm to 6pm, and, among a host of activities, there is a family walk at Watermead Park (3.45pm).

Charnwood Borough Council has also combined forces for the first time with West Leicestershire Clinical Commissioning Group so that a local GP or practice manager will be at the event, in an advisory role rather than for consultations.

There will also be an opportunity for FREE health checks on cholesterol, blood pressure, BMI (body mass index) and advice on smoking cessation.

Advice will also be available on dietetics as well as representatives being present from a number of mental health organisations, including the Good Thinking therapy service based in Loughborough.

Councillor David Snartt, Cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: "It is a fun day with a healthy message and an event in which we want to engage the whole family.

“We see the event at Elizabeth Park as a pilot project which could be repeated in other parts of the borough and I hope we will get people of all ages coming along.

"It is all part of our message aimed at inspiring the Charnwood community to lead healthy and more active lives.”

There are also plans to invite Queniborough carer Shirley West who earned the title of Charnwood’s Largest Loser after winning a Council weight-loss competition.

Shirley, 55, won the Charnwood Borough Council contest after losing more than seven per cent of her body fat over the 10-week campaign.
