Host of Activities for Youngsters During Summer Break
A GLORIOUS summer of sport is being lined up for three-to-16-year-olds in Charnwood during the school holidays.
Charnwood Borough Council’s Sport and Active Recreation team is offering a range of activities at venues throughout the county to ensure “playing out” replaces the PlayStation as youngsters get to grips with the likes of cricket, horse-riding, cheerleading, Tae Kwon-Do, Parkour, gymnastics, kite flying, cooking and angling.
The summer programme starts on Monday, July 16 and runs until August 24, and bookings are now being taken on 01509 634561, with lines open from 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
Discounts will be available for holders of Wild Card leisure passes which enable members to enjoy reduced prices at various places in and around Charnwood all year round.
Other events during the Summer festival of activities include aerial trekking at the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre in Birstall, archery in Beaumanor Hall, bushcraft for the budding explorer at Booth Wood in Loughborough, canoeing at Quorn, fencing at Shepshed, hockey at Mountsorrel and Thurmaston, and pond-dipping at Charnwood Water.
There are also planned trips, including a visit to the SnowDome in Tamworth and the MegaZone in Leicester.
Councillor David Snartt, the Council’s Cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, said: “One of our top priorities is to make Charnwood a place for residents to celebrate and enjoy and we are encouraging youngsters to take advantage of this rich variety of activities.”
A summer brochure is now available for parents and children to have a look at what is on offer.
It is available from Charnwood Borough Council’s offices in Southfield Road as well as in schools and libraries and for Wild Card members. If you want to receive a copy, call 01509 634673.
To book an activity call 01509 634561 (between 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday), or complete the booking form in the brochure, marked Summer Activities, and return, with the necessary payment, to The Contact Centre, Charnwood Borough Council, Southfields Road, Loughborough LE11 2TT.
