Charnwood Borough Council's Cabinet members support local Olympic Torchbearer Carol Dixon's fundraising cause

LEADERS at Charnwood Borough Council have been posing with the Olympic Torch to help raise cash to buy a defibrillator for a local leisure centre.

Members of the Council’s Cabinet chipped in to have their photo taken with the London 2012 Torch which was carried through Loughborough by Carol Dixon.

Carol co-ordinates HeartSmart, a scheme operated by the Council’s leisure centres partner Fusion Lifestyle which helps heart attack survivors fight back to fitness, and is currently trying to raise £2,000 to buy the equipment for South Charnwood Leisure Centre in Syston.

Councillor David Slater, Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: “The Cabinet raised nearly £70 for Carol by having our picture taken with her and the Olympic Torch.

“Carol’s work with HeartSmart is so important that we were delighted to be able to help her raise funds for a new defibrillator at South Charnwood Leisure Centre.

“I hope others will support Carol’s fundraising efforts by getting their picture taken with her and the Torch!”

Carol decided to use the Torch as a way of raising money for her cause.

Neil Pearson, Divisional Business Manager for Fusion Lifestyle, said: “We are very proud and grateful for the wonderful work Carol is doing to raise funds for the defibrillator. It will ensure the Leisure Centre is a safer place for all users.”

You can get your picture taken with the Torch as Carol will be in Loughborough town centre on Friday, July 27, as part of the Council’s celebration of the opening ceremony of London 2012.
