Oh I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside ... In Loughborough!
LOUGHBOROUGH’S historic Market Place is set for a seaside makeover as the town plays host to the third annual Loughborough-by-the-Sea spectacular.
The town centre will boast its own beach, deckchairs, games, competitions and even Punch and Judy show during the four-day event between Sunday, July 29 and Wednesday, August 1, from 10am-4pm.
At the heart of the event, which is funded by Charnwood Borough Council, will be sandy beaches, bunting and a funfair.
Councillor Paul Harley, Charnwood Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Leisure and Culture, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to turn Loughborough town centre into a holiday destination yet again.
“The Council and its partners have worked really hard to make this a superb attraction for residents and visitors so please, get down to the Town Centre and soak up the atmosphere!”
This year, ‘beachgoers’ will be able to relax in front of a giant TV screen which is being installed in the town centre to broadcast the Olympics between July 27 and August 12.
Loughborough-by-the-Sea will be officially opened by the Mayor of Charnwood Councillor Diane Wise on Sunday, July 29.
There is a packed programme of events to keep audiences entertained each day including craft activities, sand castle building competitions, boat racing, face painting, a treasure hunt, battle ships, rides, Punch and Judy.
Michael Bird, Market Fairs and Town Centre Operations Manager , said: “Loughborough-by-the-Sea is a marvellous attraction which can help bring families together and help parents find something fun and different for their little ones to enjoy during this summer holiday.
“It really does boast all the fun of the seaside and the best thing of all is that it is totally free to enjoy!”
