Loughborough Leisure Centre Voted Top Health Club in the East Midlands

LOUGHBOROUGH Leisure Centre has been crowned the best health club in the East Midlands at a prestigious awards ceremony.

It is the first time the facility, which is owned by Charnwood Borough Council and managed by its leisure centres partner Fusion Lifestyle, has won the Health Club of the Year gong.

The awards, sponsored by Centrum Performance, attracted more than 400 entries from sites across the UK and between February and April, more than 37,000 members graded their local gyms in an online questionnaire.

What makes the accolade even more special is that the competition judges were the centre’s own members!

Councillor Paul Harley, Charnwood Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Leisure and Culture, said: “This is an outstanding achievement for everyone who works so hard to make Loughborough Leisure Centre such a top facility for our customers.

“We are now well into a £2.1 million revamp so we’re hoping we can make the centre an even more attractive venue for residents.”

Will Bowman, Loughborough Leisure Centre’s General Manager, said: “We are so excited to have won this award. The whole team works extremely hard to deliver a high standard of service and value for money. This award reiterates that most of the time we get this spot on.

“With the redevelopment of the facilities nearing completion, including a brand new gym, three group exercise studios, café, changing rooms, remodelled reception and children’s soft play area we are hoping to transform this much loved local facility into a modern, purpose-built health and fitness leisure centre to rival any other.”

The Health Club of the Year Award was presented to the Loughborough Leisure Centre team at a prestigious black tie ceremony at the Metropole Hotel in Birmingham on September 18, 2012. More than 400 people attended the event, including many of the finalists from around the UK.

Simon Brown, MD of the awards, said: “We believe the best health clubs provide a balance in three key areas - range of facilities, customer service and value for money.  The Members Choice Health Club Awards are designed to find out which clubs are excelling in these areas and recognising them for their efforts.
