Events Planned to Remember Charnwood's Fallen Heroes

Remembrance Day Service in Queen's Park Last Year

CHARNWOOD’S fallen war heroes will be remembered at two special services.

The Mayor of Charnwood, Councillor Diane Wise, will the lay the first wreath at a poignant Garden of Remembrance Service on October 27 in Queen’s Park.

Then on November 11, more than 1,000 serving and ex-service personnel, representing more than 25 local uniformed organisations, will parade through Loughborough town centre to the Carillon for a special Remembrance Day service organised by the Royal British Legion.

The parade and service is one of the biggest in the East Midlands and attracts more than 3,000 people.

Cllr Wise said: “As Mayor it is an honour and a privilege to be able to play a role in the events which recognise the brave men and women who have fought and died for our country in conflicts around the world.

“The service and parade in Loughborough has grown to be one of the biggest in the East Midlands and is always a poignant reminder of the human cost of war. Their sacrifices should never be forgotten.

“It is with pride that our communities come together to pay their respects at the many services around Charnwood sharing the two minutes silence helping us keep alive the memories of our fallen heroes.

“I ask that every one gives generously when buying a poppy to show your support for the Royal British Legion, which without your generosity, would be unable to continue its work in supporting those service personnel and their families affected by the conflicts that they have served in.”

The two events are:
